At first King Phillip Vth commissioned the construction to Filippo Juvara. But it was his disciple, Juan Bautista Sachetti, who will actually draw up the final plans after the death of the master. It is not finished until 1738, nearly 17 years after the first foundation is actually laid. But its most important contributor will be King Charles III -known as the «best Madrid’s mayor», for the reforms he made to the city-, the first King to live in the Palace and who was engaged in finishing its decoration. Both Kings Charles IV -who commissioned the superb Hall of Mirrors- and his son Ferdinand VII (not very appreciated in Spain though) added other decoration objects (clocks, furniture, chandeliers, etc.).
