Antigua Catedral de Carcasona hasta el nombramiento como tal de la Catedral de San Miguel, se encuentra dentro de la famosa Cité. Conoció una importante restauración por el arquitecto Violet Le Duc y sus colaboradores a mediados del siglo XIX.

Estas vidrieras son consideradas como las más bellas del Midi francés. La basílica se edificó en estilo románico, existiendo antes de la Cruzada contra los cátaros, que desposeyó, aunque no definitivamente, al Conde Ramón Roger Trencavel de su título y de la ciudad, pasando ésta a manos francesas. A partir de ese momento, se realizan diversas modificaciones también de la Basílica, ya en estilo gótico. La intervención de Violet Le Duc, que incorporó gárgolas y balaustres, contribuyó a acentuar este último estilo.

Former Cathedral of Carcassone till the consecration of nowadays’ Cathedral of Saint Michael, it is located inside the famous Cité. It was restored in the 19th century by architect Violet le Duc and his partners.

These stained-glass windows are considered the most beautiful of the French Midi. The church was built in Romanesque stile, before the Crusade against the Cathars, which deprived, although not definitively of his title and the city to the Count Ramón Roger Trencavel, both of them passing into French hands. From that moment on, the Church suffered several modifications in Gothic style. Violet Le Duc’s intervention, which added gargoyles and balusters, contributed to emphasize that latest style in the building.
